As you may know, the operation of the Realcomp MLS is overseen by a Board of Governors. This Board is made up of 16 representatives; two (2) representatives from each of our eight (8) Shareholder Boards and Associations of REALTORS®. These individuals, who are also connected to the real estate industry, devote several hours of their time and attention each month for the betterment of your Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and its 13,400+ MLS Subscribers.
So that you can get to know them better, over the next several months, Realcomp plans to highlight one Governor each month. This month, please meet Ms. Wynne Achatz from Real Estate One Westrick of Marine City, MI.
Realcomp Governor Spotlight:
1. Describe your current role in your company and how long you have worked in real estate overall.
I have been licensed since 1978, and am currently the Broker/Owner of an office in Marine City and Algonac in St. Clair County. The primary board for the Marine City office is ETAR, and the primary board for Algonac is GMAR.
2. What drew you to the real estate business?
Real estate was something I was never going to do even though I am a 4th generation REALTOR®. At age twenty-eight, my dad asked me to get licensed so I could answer the phones and make appointments for him. I had two small children at home at the time, and they could be in the apartment (part of the office), so it was the best of two worlds — I could stay at home with my children and work for my dad at the same time.
3. What aspect of your career do you most enjoy?
Helping folks solve problems with any of their real estate needs is a major part of the career that I like. I like traveling for business, to the meetings and educational sessions we are offered, because I have met so many wonderful fellow agents along the way. I also like that I have been blessed with many opportunities to serve my local, state, and national associations in various leadership positions. I have always felt that before you can complain about the way things are run, you need to be there first.
4. What one (1) thing in real estate has changed most dramatically since you started your career and how did/have you adjusted to this change?
Gee, I have been in the business so long… Interest rates were much higher when I got into the business and we never rushed a closing, people had their paperwork ahead of time—kinda what the TRID has brought us back to. Another thing was that way back then, we did not even have fax machines or any sort of technology… and gas was a lot cheaper! I go with the flow as far as the banking part of it. As for technology, I fully embraced it right away, and even felt frustration when other agents thought I was nuts. I don't know how I ever performed without it… I guess I just get a lot more done, and with that a lot more is expected from "Joe Public".
5. What would people never guess that you do in your career?
I am very involved behind the scenes in helping the industry better itself.
6. What is your favorite aspect of serving on the Realcomp Board of Governors?
Being able to work with my peers to make the Realcomp MLS the best that it can be and protect the rights of the REALTOR® family when it comes to sharing data.
7. What do you see for the future of Realcomp?
Growth moving forward. I would like to see Realcomp continue as an industry leader for MLS systems.
8. If you could pass along a favorite quote or piece of wisdom to other REALTORS®, what would that be?
Don't be afraid to be yourself, and when you find your niche…
