March 2018 Report
Collaborating for Counseling
We know homeownership is more sustainable when buyers take part in homeownership counseling and education. I’m excited to see the Homeownership Collaborative, a coalition of real estate trade associations and nonprofit housing counseling providers created in 2016, take on this issue in a new report issued a few weeks ago. Though every real estate professional has a stake in preventing defaults and delinquencies, many agents and lenders don’t know how important education and counseling is for their clients and borrowers. Most don’t know what counseling resources exist in their markets.
The Homeownership Collaborative aims to bring together lenders, brokers, agents and counselors to discuss how to work together to increase the use homeownership counseling and education by buyers. Sounds like an excellent idea.
