10 Reasons Why Agents SHOULD WANT to Use an Electronic Lockbox on their Listings?

Answer the following questions for the top 10 answers:

1. Can a combination lockbox be set to open only during certain hours of the day? No. Combination boxes are accessible at any time of the day or night. Realcomp’s SentriLock boxes are automatically restricted to the time frame of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. So, most access is taking place during daytime hours and early evening.

2. Do combination lockboxes offer a “Do Not Disturb” feature for homeowners to use when they need privacy? No. We continue to hear occasional stories of homeowners caught off-guard (i.e., napping, showering, nursing a baby, etc.) by “unexpected visitors” letting themselves in. However, with Realcomp’s SentriLock lockboxes, agents can provide homeowners with a code to use the DND feature whenever they want.

3. Can combination lockbox access be restricted to only those who are authorized (i.e., REALTORS®/REALTORS® with approved showing appointments)? No. Anyone with knowledge of the access code (i.e., someone who has already gained entry with the code previously or has viewed the code being entered and returns) can open the lockbox at any time until the old code has been physically changed to a new one. SentriLock lockboxes require either the SentriKey app (used by REALTORS®), the SentriConnect app (used by REALTORS® and others authorized by the listing agent/office to acsess), or a 1-day code issued by the listing agent/office.

4. Can a combination lockbox code be reset remotely by the listing agent? No. To change the access code for the lockbox, someone (i.e., the listing agent or someone from their office) must physically visit the lockbox (which is not always convenient) and change it manually. The SentriLock electronic lockboxes are only accessible to those with an authorized app or who have been given a temporary access code by the listing agent/office. So, there is never a need to change an access code on the boxes. Additionally, access granted through the SentriConnect app can be withdrawn at a moment's notice by the listing agent/office. Additionally, if a 1-day code is issued for access, it expires on its own at the end of that day.

5. Can access to a combination lockbox be withdrawn remotely? No. Once someone has the access code to a combination lockbox, they can use it to open the box, access the key, and enter the home any time that code remains active on the box.

6. Can 1-day access be granted on a combination lockbox? No. To have the same effect as a 1-day code, the listing agent would need to visit the property and change the lockbox code every time it is given out or used by anyone.

7. Can a combination lockbox provide the listing agent with reporting regarding when the lockbox was opened and by whom? No. That type of lockbox is “as dumb as a doorknob”. However, with the SentriLock system, you gain unparalleled insight into comprehensive reporting and a detailed audit trail of each access event. This advanced feature not only enhances security but also provides peace of mind, ensuring you are always informed and in control of your listings.

8. Are most combination lockboxes durable enough to withstand attacks designed to break and breach the boxes? No. SentriLock lockboxes have a very durable design, have undergone independent testing, and are guaranteed to withstand virtually any break-in attempt.

9. If you are still using combination lockboxes, are you providing your clients with the most secure lockbox technology available? No. Electronic lockboxes act as the guardians of your listings, safeguarding your client's interests and assisting with smooth showings. Moreover, they play a crucial role in building trust between clients and agents.

10. Can you obtain a combination lockbox free of charge from Realcomp or your Shareholder Board/Association? No. You would need to purchase these lockboxes on your own. Realcomp and its Shareholders provide the electronic lockboxes to MLS Subscribers at no additional cost since the cost of this service is factored into your Realcomp MLS fees.

Concerned about needing reliable Internet access for accessing lockboxes located in rural areas? No need. If you open SentriLock app and allow the necessary updates to occur, from your office or home where you have Internet access (before traveling), your app will be ready to communicate with the lockbox when you arrive. Your SmartPhone app communicates with the electronic lockbox via BlueTooth -- not the Internet.
